E) Yoga Nidra Meditation Workshop

Despite the word yoga being in its name, this is a fully guided
meditation practice. Yoga Nidra is a form of meditation that allows
your body and mind to hover in the state between being awake and
asleep. This practice gives your body the opportunity to experience
deep rest while also nourishing your entire nervous system. Our
minds are constantly being over stimulated. This can lead to mental
health struggles, sleep issues or a general feeling of being unwell.
But with the help of meditation, you can begin to encourage your
body to rest in a more peaceful state.


F) Quilt As YOU go

Marielle is back! She will teach you how to make a quilt using the
“quilt as you go” method. You will learn how to prepare quilt blocks
and how to join the blocks to complete your quilt. Bring your scissors
and sewing machine threaded with white thread. You will also need
cotton fabric pieces of various colours and thin batting. Marielle will
meet with you at her shop prior to the course to answer all your
questions and guide you in the purchase of supplies.


G) Spine Self-Care

Join Elaine for a discussion on “How to Care for Your Spine”. In this
presentation, Elaine will discuss a brief review of anatomy, general

flare-up plan should look like, and basic spine first-aid. The emphasis
will be on self-care.

ways to extend our food budget. Leonard, a trained butcher and self-
taught chef, will help you elevate those cheaper meat cuts into

gourmet meals. You will share the fruits of your labour in the
beautiful Shalom House (170 St. Paul Street, Alexandria) dining
room.


J) Learn to Carve

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced woodcarver you are
invited to join this class to share the satisfaction and joy found in
carving. Michel, an experienced carver, will provide the necessary
wood at minimal cost. He will guide you in a project of your choice. If
you have any carving tools, please bring them. If not, you will have
access to some.

L) Madagascar: Not a movie

“Madagascar” The word conjures up romantic images of lemurs, rain
forests and ocean waves. The truth includes another Madagascar
struggling to survive, struggling to feed and educate its people. Join
Helena for a virtual tour into the central mountains. She spent six
weeks living at Tenaquip School, travelling to Tananarive and, yes,
visiting the lemurs.


M) Education and Exercise for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis

Penny Décoste, Program Coordinator for Carefor Health
Community Services, will show us how to stay fit through the
SMART exercise program, a fun, gentle, safe method for all levels of
ability. It is designed to improve strength, balance, coordination and
mobility through low-impact exercise. The program also focuses on
seniors maintaining independence and offers strategies to reduce fall
risk. Wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. Come and get
SMART!

Q) Spoons, Rings and Things

Brenda is a silverware artisan at TWO HAMMERS in Monkland. She
crafts rings, necklaces and earrings from such items as silver plated
or sterling silver sugar tongs, spoons, forks and knives. Brenda will
explain and demonstrate how this is done with just her hammer. If
you just happen to have a piece of cutlery in your pocket or purse

that is silver plated or sterling, you might go home with a one-of-a-
kind piece of jewelry.


R) The Red Sea Miracle (2 parts)

Len is excited to share this two-part movie and lead the follow up
discussion. One of the greatest miracles in the Bible is the parting of
the waters for safe passage of the Israelites but is there any
evidence that it really happened, and if so, where? The Red Sea
Miracle, Pattern of Evidence (Directed by film maker Timothy P Mahoney
and Cecelia DeMille Presley) addresses these questions. Session 1:
Evidence from 2 separate sources: The Egyptian Record and the Hebrew
Record. Session 2: Geographical and Archaeological Sources.


S) A Trip to the Sugar Bush

Join Mallory in his maple bush for the sweetest event of spring;
maple syrup production. You will see a modern sap collection
pipeline system and shiny boiling pans in the sugar camp. The camp
is located close to 4th Line Road, east of North Lancaster. Please be
aware that the date of this session is highly dependent on the spring
weather.


T) Visit to Fraserloch Farm

Jack and Linda Fraser have seen a lot of changes to Fraserloch
farms since they began farming 200 acres in 1978. Join them and
their sons Mark and Matthew as they explain the changes. You will
witness a robotic milking system which allows more flexibility in a
farmer’s day.


U) An Arctic Experience

Wayne is excited to tell you of his experiences teaching three years
in Hall Beach, a small Inuit village (pop. 158). Located on the eastern
side of the Melville Peninsula, it is approximately 400 km north of the
Arctic Circle. Wayne became totally involved in all aspects of the
ancient traditions and Thule Culture of the village. A strong bond with
the indigenous peoples made leaving very difficult. Wayne will focus
his presentation on pictures and authentic artifacts from this teaching
experience.


V) Introduction to Homesteading and Food Sovereignty

You, too, can contribute to your home food supply. Whether in an
apartment or homestead, there are solutions to growing and processing
some of your own food. Brigitte will lead you through the basics of food
growing: (types of growing, solutions to small spaces, types of plants
etc) foraging: (using wild vegetables, weeds), food preserving (canning,
dehydrating, freeze drying, fermenting). You will also learn about
animals on smaller scale farms: the costs etc. In this introductory course
you will be introduced to skill sets as part of the homesteading lifestyle.
Please bring your questions as Brigitte is keen on participant directed
questions and discussion. (If interest warrants, Brigitte is willing to
present more in-depth courses on this topic.


W) Prophecies of the Passion

For centuries, the Jewish people looked for a Messiah. In the Old
Testament, there are more than 300 prophesies that describe Him,
how He would be recognized and how He would be treated. This
DVD presentation concentrates on 22 of the prophecies that
describe Christ’s final days on earth. The presentation will be
followed by a discussion.

BB) Traditional Rug Hooking

Jane and her friends are excited to teach you traditional rug hooking.
The basic technique is to hold a thin strip of cloth or wool on the back
side of coarsely woven fabric. Small loops are drawn through the
openings of the weave using a hooking tool. The ladies have
prepared kits with all the needed materials including the hoop,
background linen, pattern, wool and a rug hooking tool which is
worth approximately $15. You can learn a new skill and join the
friendly rug hooking ladies in our area.


CC) Understanding How Relationships Fail; How to Improve Them

Donna’s 30 years of work as an occupational therapist is an
excellent background to explore human relationships. You will look at
unhealthy patterns of relating using the Karpman Triangle, by Steven
Karpman. The triangle consists of: Victim (Damsel in Distress),
Persecutor (Abuser) and Rescuer. Donna will conclude by
discussing healthier ways of relating using her Kite/Diamond model
of relationships.

Not many of us remember a day when the family doctor braved the
elements to bring help to the scattered country homes. Elizabeth, her
parents and siblings lived with her grandmother and grandfather Dr.
A.T. Munroe. Dr Munroe practiced medicine in Dalkeith from 1905
until 1957. This session promises to be an interesting morning as
Elizabeth shares stories about her grandfather’s life and the
challenges he faced as a country doctor.

HH) Spring Nature Walk

Join Helena and friends to explore the Garry Fen trail at Lakeshore
Road, North Glengarry. It is a 4km walk including boardwalks;
some roots but no elevations. We will learn to identify the spring
flowers, the carnivorous plants and some invasive species growing
by the fen. It is truly a botanical jewel in our area.


II) Agritourism: A local tulip farm’s story

Vankleek Hill Tulip Fields is a new and thriving local u-pick tulip
farm. Come meet the owners, Sandra and Mike, learn how they got
into the business, and what tulip farming is all about. You will hear
about the challenges and joys of having an agritourism farm. Tour
their field, see their operations and ask them questions. And don’t
forget to pick some tulips to take home.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced bird watcher you won’t
be disappointed. Cooper Marsh has many bird species and Mike,
an avid birder with the Cornwall Birding Club, will help you locate
them. Although the trails are generally dry, do wear clothing and
footwear to suit the weather.


KK) Cornwall Outing

Why not treat yourself to a day’s outing in Cornwall, Ontario. We have
organized a 10 am visit to the SDandG Historic Jail, built in 1883 and
operated until 2002. It served as an asylum, a house of refuge and a
courthouse. A tour guide will treat you to many stories about the
building and the inmates. Across the way is the Cornwall Community
Museum, 160 Water Street. Brent Whitford will enhance your
knowledge about the people, places and events that shaped Cornwall.
Finish off your day with a visit to the Saunder’s Hydro Dam 2500B
Second Street West, Cornwall K6H 5R6 at 2 pm. It showcases the
history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power project as well as the
communities and people affected. Come and explore the exciting,
informative and interactive displays. Bring your lunch to enjoy in
Lamoureux park or visit a local restaurant.


LL) A Tour of the Bishop’s House in Glengarry

Did you know that the Bishop’s House in St Raphael’s is one
element of the celebrated St Raphael’s Ruins National Historic
Site? This 1808 landmark was the presbytery of the first Bishop of
Upper Canada and later the renowned school; Iona Academy. One
of the oldest, most historic buildings in Ontario, it was saved from
demolition by the Glengarry Fencibles Trust.
Join Brenda for a tour and learn the history of this beautiful stone
building.
