  1. Glengarry Encore Education was started by a handful of seniors from the area who were
    taking courses at Encore in Cornwall. In 2006 Glengarry Encore became an organization
    separate from Cornwall Encore.
  2. Glengarry Encore is a non-profit, run by volunteers. All its income is from course
    registrations.
  3. Registrations help pay for 6 hours of office staff per week, office expenses, insurance,
    printing and mailing. NO PRESENTERS ARE PAID. They are also volunteers.
  4. Income from the publication of two books was invested and is now used to pay rent.
  5. Glengarry Encore has no membership fee and is open to all ages.

Do you have some time to volunteer?

  1. The Encore board includes up to 14 members. They are elected at the AGM which will
    be on Friday, June 6. Meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons, once a month. The
    board oversees all aspects of the organization including the management of finances
    and receiving committee reports.
  2. You can be a committee member without being a board member. Each committee is
    chaired by a board member.
    Committees:
    • Curriculum committee: This committee is charged with searching out presenters and
    setting up the program. Meetings are limited. This is the backbone of Glengarry Encore.
    • Host/Hostesses: This group ensures that classes run smoothly. Each course has a
    host. They communicate with the presenter, remind participants, open the doors and
    ensure that the coffee is prepared for coffee break. In return they are not required to pay
    the registration fee. (Some of our hosts choose to pay the fee). You may choose to host
    one class or multiple classes.
    • Milk bag weaving: Once a month, usually on a Thursday, a group of women volunteer
    to weave milk bag mats to send to war-torn countries and disaster areas. Volunteers
    welcome.
